Of course there is our regular art time, which I wish was SO much longer. But there are also other opportunities as well.<br />
<br />
A couple days a week there is after school art through <a href="http://www.yougottahaveart-studio.com/" target="_blank"><b>You Gotta Have Art</b></a>, which I occasionally teach (love getting to see the kiddos after school!).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">*The newest YGHA session starts this week. It's not too late to sign up!*</span></b></div>
<br />
One of our business partners is <a href="http://69.195.124.73/~outoftk6/" target="_blank"><b>Out of the Box Art Studio</b></a>. This studio, located near Wills Park off of highway 9, has many many programs available for kids of all ages; camps, classes, parties, etc. I was recently able to take a tour and was really impressed with all the creativity that goes on there.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">*Out of the Box Art Studio with be holding a raffle at our annual Art Show </span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">you could win a FREE eight week class!*</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Do you love our annual Art Show? Would you like more information about the company we use to create this amazing opportunity for our students? The wait is over! <a href="http://artome.com/" target="_blank">Artome</a> gives the students a chance to shine while raising money for our art program. I will be posting the official "Save the Date" soon, but our show information is below.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">*Thursday, December 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. </span></b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Frame prices will be $25*</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I will be creating permanent links for all of these companies on this page, check back soon to enjoy the easy access!</div>

I'm sure the 2013-2014 is going to be the best yet! Soon I'll update the site with a preview of this years projects as well as information about our art show. <br />
<br />
For today, here are a couple creative things I worked on over the summer. What did you do?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji52ri359jyOuzeooXIc4v84nNQaUzu9lHHNmK8eamxzPmQOLyrgj2a5RNBzB2EfLb8yVC6UCnClGv5D1qJ2Yw4zh2lVY7tCHISTLC0BehiDjZAnnr5I1Hn6-Ed4iCvhMVPSKY86rDStEL/s1600/Completed+Mural.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji52ri359jyOuzeooXIc4v84nNQaUzu9lHHNmK8eamxzPmQOLyrgj2a5RNBzB2EfLb8yVC6UCnClGv5D1qJ2Yw4zh2lVY7tCHISTLC0BehiDjZAnnr5I1Hn6-Ed4iCvhMVPSKY86rDStEL/s400/Completed+Mural.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a large mural (a painting applied right to the wall) I painted for Mountain Park Elementary School in Roswell. It's almost 6 feet tall and took a total of about 16 hours to finish!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgKJwny-tdcF7Ry_sL_FMnAZu4oOrLA40hPtev8Hgm40gZ2PtHHEh-lC6dGjcpaTgMr6sCtLzNg9QENAiHV1GIeEILE_yU5AiuKaYqzf9DgIR6vEbVBAPxWLQiYt03CGSE3dlyIpWpWGIl/s1600/Completed+Badge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgKJwny-tdcF7Ry_sL_FMnAZu4oOrLA40hPtev8Hgm40gZ2PtHHEh-lC6dGjcpaTgMr6sCtLzNg9QENAiHV1GIeEILE_yU5AiuKaYqzf9DgIR6vEbVBAPxWLQiYt03CGSE3dlyIpWpWGIl/s400/Completed+Badge.jpg" width="297" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm very proud of this piece! This is a colored pencil drawing I made for a very good friend. He's a police officer in Florida and this is his badge. This one drawing took me about 20 hrs to complete! </div>

I'm going to have to stop whining and start practicing. Artist <a href="http://www.visualnews.com/2012/06/29/whiteboard-drawings-done-short-lunch-break/">Gregory Euclide</a> creates AMAZING images on white boards, using dry erase marker, ON HIS LUNCH BREAK! Astonishing!<br />

Second grade will have time to squeeze in one more small project before we make our portfolio's the week of May 13th. <br />
<br />
We'll be reading/listening to the book The Calabash Cat by James Rumford and creating our own Calabash inspired animals. Although Mr. Rumford's illustrations were done primarily in neutral colors, students will be allowed to use a background color of their choice.<br />

Mrs. Gunter and I (Ms. Ball) had an art meeting at the <a href="http://www.high.org/" target="_blank">High Museum of Art</a> on the teacher work day. As well as getting to walk through the amazing <a href="http://www.high.org/Visit/Landing-Pages/Frida-and-Diego-Introductory-Video.aspx" target="_blank">Frida & Diego</a> exhibit, we got to meet local artist, <a href="http://evereman.com/" target="_blank">Evereman</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: right;">

<div style="text-align: right;">
Keep your eyes peeled next time you're downtown, he leaves his Evereman symbols in hidden places, if you find one you get to keep it! Mrs. Gunter and I got to use a branding press make our own wooden Evereman symbols.</div>

(three dimensional, not flat but taking up space and "popping out" think about the difference between a regular and a 3D movie!) In addition to creating artwork that is actually three dimensional, second through 5th will employ various drawing techniques that create the illusion of depth on a flat surface.<br />

Coming soon! Examples of our projects investigating different aspects of 3D art!<br />

As we wrap up our art show options a couple of my classes have had a chance to view this video and wanted to be able to see it at home. <br />

My 2nd graders are actually going to be doing a quilling project beginning next week. I found a really cool website <a href="http://www.squidoo.com/extreme-paper-quilling" target="_blank">found here</a>. Check it out and get ready guys!<br />

We talked about and artist named Kim Burke (her etsy shop, if you're interested, can be found <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/fairchildart" target="_blank">here</a>). She makes amazingly small food miniatures from Polymer Clay.<br />
<br />
Here is one of the examples I showed my classes<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<img alt="Layers of Pink Polymer Clay Miniature Cake Earrings" height="318" src="http://img2.etsystatic.com/il_570xN.292447826.jpg" width="320" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This project got me thinking about what other types of art people might make having to do with food..... And mysteriously this next picture by <a href="http://www.bigappetites.net/" target="_blank">Christopher Boffoli</a>, found me on the internet this weekend. The title is: Citrus Mower. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<img height="266" src="http://digitalabstracts.com/img/news/zesty_Christopher_Boffoli.jpeg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love how he strategically peeled the orange and paired it with the perfect plastic toy. Do you think he was making a statement about something from life, or just making an interesting piece of work? </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm not saying you should play with your food, but I bet you can come up with some neat ideas of your own.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

But I think it's been worth it. LOOK at what this artist, Guy Larame, has been creating from old books!<br />
<br />

He uses tools to carve into them and create really detailed landscapes. You can see more of his work <a href="http://abduzeedo.com/breathtaking-landscapes-old-books-guy-laramee">here</a>. <br />
I hope everyone got plenty of rest over the break, this time of year I always feel like we have a ton to do and not enough time to do it in. Classes will be working on either clay or printmaking, weaving and at least one more drawing project for the year. This semester is when some of my most favorite projects happen.<br />
<br />
I was online checking my email this morning and came across this fabulous video a couple from Toronto, Canada made using a technique called Stop Animation. It's called "The Joy of Books" I hope it makes you smile like it did me =-)<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SKVcQnyEIT8?rel=0" width="465"></iframe><br />
<br />
Here are two great resources for more information on Stop Animation. <a href="http://content.photojojo.com/tutorials/stop-motion-digital-camera/">Link #1</a> and <a href="http://youtu.be/t0KMSfiizdY">Link #2</a> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">*Parents, Link #2 is going to take you away from my page to a You Tube video, the music is crazy but I have not seen any inappropriate previews for other videos*</span>Ms. Ballhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03565777887756321151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8477430189041101149.post-75961936079825040772011-12-02T05:47:00.001-08:002013-03-12T15:21:17.447-07:00A little Winter Fun!<br />
<br />
Quilling is an art form that involves using tiny strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create decorative designs.<br />
<br />
Here is a video on how to make a quilled snowflake!<br />

The man has excellent premade/dry examples of the steps. I'm loving this for first grade (or any grade!) as a preview before we begin making our Japanese Tea Bowls.

One of the many cool things she has taught us (in addition to how to create this glorious blog) is how to take video with our Avermedia document cameras, and then edit that video in Windows Movie Maker.<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/kiOv1m4xwYs" width="420"></iframe>
(A special thank you to Jessica Booth, Fulton county art coordinator for making sure we have the document cameras in the first place!)<br />
